Expansion News! Mounts

by

MOo?

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been curious about what the next expansion brings in terms of mounts. Will there be a new tier? Will current mounts be useless? These questions are particularly important if you haven’t yet gotten an epic flying mount yet, because with the expansion rapidly approaching..why would you bother to get it if you knew it was going to be obsolete?

To shed a limited amount of light on the subject, I recently came across a post by a Blizzard CM, Bornakk, who had the following to say:

” We have stated in the past that we don’t have any announced plans to add another tier of riding skill in Wrath of the Lich King. While you won’t be able to use your current flying mounts right when you get to Northrend, we plan to allow you to use them at a later point in time.

As a reminder, anything could be subject to change at this point.”

Hmm.

What this likely means is that there will not be new mounts to use in the new expansion, or at least new mounts that would require a newer riding skill. It also means that at least some zones will not allow the use of your flying mounts, either. Hints are all we have to go on this point, of course, but Bornakk makes some important distinctions. He also points out that they do plan on allowing flying mounts in some zones, at some point, so the epic flying mounts/skills don’t appear to be completely worthless once Wrath of the Lich King hits, if less-important for travel.
